In the summer of 2013, a team of LEEDCo representatives went door-to-door across Northeast Ohio asking residents two simple questions:
1) Do you want to help promote offshore wind energy in Lake Erie by committing to buy a small portion of the power generated by the Icebeaker offshore wind project?
2) How much more would you be willing to pay for this premium source of electricity?
Here are the results of that campaign:
- 8,000+ pledges
- 60% sign up rate
- Willing to pay an average of $12.72 per month more
The Power Pledge campaign demonstrated that the people of Northeast Ohio overwhelmingly want the option to power their homes with locally-sourced clean energy that creates jobs and heals the environment, and they are willing to pay a premium price to help make the vision a reality.
You too can take the Power Pledge below
I want to Promote Offshore Wind Energy by purchasing electricity from "Icebreaker," America's first freshwater offshore wind project, located on Lake Erie. We can bring a new industry to the Great Lakes region that improves the environment, creates local jobs, and advances our nation's energy security.
I pledge to buy a portion of my electricity from the Great Lakes' first offshore wind project.
Who Signs the Power Pledge?
More than 7,000 individuals all across Ohio have already signed the Power Pledge as of September 7, 2013.
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur
