Market Snapshot

Global - In December 2011, global clean energy investments surpassed $1 trillion since 2004. Offshore wind in Europe started in 1991. With 4 gigawatts (GW), Europe is the market leader with job creation numbers at 40,000 and total investment exceeding $100 billion. Europe plans to have 150 GW of offshore wind by 2030. China will install 5 GW by 2015 and 30 GW by 2020. South Korea begins with a $9 billion for a 2.5 GW project by 2019. Play time is definitely over. Even Danish toy company, LEGO, invested over $500 million in a German offshore wind project!

National - Wind is the fastest growing renewable energy source for electricity generation in the United States, according to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Surpassing the other major renewable energy resources like solar, geothermal, biomass and hydrogen; wind power's accelerated presence upon the horizons of a multitude of landscapes is no accident. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates 20% of the energy consumed in the U.S. could come from wind power by 2030.

Local - At the state level, Ohio passed legislation for an Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard, requiring 25% of electricity generated to come from clean energy sources by 2020.
