Buoys out in Lake Erie have been tracking wind speed, water temperature, air temperature, wave height and more for several years. A new buoy with better, higher technology was deployed on May 2, 2019 at the proposed site for Icebreaker. This buoy includes a high-definition webcam.

US gives USD 28m in federal grants for wind R&D

The U.S. Department of Energy is funding $28 million in wind energy projects, with the largest part of that - up to $10 million - going to LEEDCo and the University of Maine. LEEDCo will use its portion of the money to deploy innovative sensing technologies for tracking bird activity near wind turbines.
